Meetup: Thursday 10th September with James Gupta on Fallen Angels & Vulture Capitalists plus Hannah Chaplin co-founder of Receptive
James Gupta: Fallen Angels & Vulture Capitalists
For the last 12 months, James has been on a journey to secure investment for his company. Just like Frodo, the journey was far more complicated than he first thought, with twists, wrong turns, dead ends and difficult decisions.
Throughout the journey, James has had experiences with Angel Investors, Venture Capitalists, Crowdfunding and everything in between trying to find the ‘right’ investor for his company!
In this talk James will discuss his experience over the last year, the advantages and disadvantages of different types of investment, key lessons learned and, crucially: when to walk away.

Hannah Chaplin co-founder of Receptive
We’ve recently been through the Ignite accelerator programme for technology startups and we’ve learned a lot along the way! It’s my third start up and first time leading a business through a funding round so I’d love to share what I’ve learned and discuss other people’s experiences. There will also be a short demo of Receptive which allows businesses to make data-driven product decisions.
Bio
I’ve worked in the software industry since leaving school and really enjoy solving problems and building ideas into products. My first venture was a software agency and since then I’ve been involved primarily with SaaS & ecommerce businesses in development, consultant and founder roles. Receptive is my latest venture with co-founder, Dan Dukeson, and we’re excited to be growing the business in Sheffield. Looking forward to the adventure and hoping it will be one long episode of Silicon Valley 🙂
